Ganduje stepped down on Friday, 27th June 2025 reportedly amid persuasions from the party stakeholders, particularly from the North Central region, who have consistently demanded that the chairmanship return to their zone.

According to sources, Ganduje’s resignation was largely influenced by his mishandling of the recent FCT Area Council primaries.
Ganduje, who took office in August 2023 after the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu, has since struggled to unify the party.
His exit is seen as a strategic move by the APC to regain internal stability ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In the interim, the party plans to allow one of its current Deputy National chairmen to serve as acting chairman, pending election of a substantive leader at the party’s national convention billed for December.
