Coach Chelle Names Troost-Ekong as Super Eagles Captain

In a move targeted to reshape the Super Eagles' formation, the Head Coach, Eric Chelle has made some significant changes to the team's captaincy structure, thereby naming William Troost-Ekong as the Captain of the Nigeria's national team.

The changes to the leadership structure were necessitated by the absence of Ahmed Musa and Kenneth Omeruo, who are not expected to be involved in the remaining World Cup Qualifiers games.

Musa, who had been the substantive captain of the team, is yet to announce his retirement, but it is clear he would not be playing a major role in the team's quest to qualify for the World Cup.

In Musa's absence, Troost-Ekong will lead the team, with Wilfred Ndidi serving as his first assistant. Moses Simon will be the second assistant, while Victor Osimhen will complete the leadership group.

The Super Eagles are expected to make a strong start to their World Cup Qualifiers campaign when they take on Rwanda on 21st March 2025, at Amahoro Stadium in Rwanda.
