THE EVIL THAT MEN DO
In Chemistry, a certain term is known as “covalent bond”. In Biology, similar phenomenon is being tagged as “symbiotic relationship”. In sociology, you may see it as “mutual mingling”. But I call it interdependent coexistence. Summarily, they are all talking about the relationship between two or more persons/things in which they benefit from each other.
Since my adolescent stage, I’ve been asking myself one certain question and the question which may seem rhetorical remains, where is the human race actually heading to; or why was it meant to exist? To some of us who are very close to the holy writ, we may reply that we were mandated by the “Almighty” to go into the world and multiply which is the paramount reason for our existence. Then after multiplication through sexual reproduction, what next; in other words, having multiplied ourselves, what is expected of us or where are we meant/supposed to head to? Question yet to be answered by anyone, not even myself. Notwithstanding, I’m not really eager to have the answer but I think we ought to find out the fact behind it in order to save us some necessary urge which may lead to unnecessary tribulation.
Few days ago, a good friend of mine happened to submit the bitter side of his observation over the Nigerian society when I was spending my leisure time with him at one of the relaxation centres in Owerri metropolis. He told me that the recent craze for wealth among Nigerians was really becoming crazy. He proceeded by telling me that if adequate measure is not taken, such societal cankerworm may lead to mayhem. Honestly, his candid comments ushered me into a prolonged state of meditation.
Brethren, we’re discussing or about to discuss the evil that men do. The BBC English dictionary defined evil as “all the wicked and bad things that happen in the world”. On the other hand, the Oxford concise English dictionary described it as “something harmful or undesirable”. In my humble language, I put it as a sacrilegious act. Or, extremely wicked and immoral behaviour. It would be inconsequential to give you an instance of an evil act because irrespective of our ages, we’re no longer unfamiliar with the term “evil” which remains a very popular word in our everyday activity. Thus, evil is not unconnected with the wholesome human race.
The popular citation that says, “The evil that men do lives after them” has been opium of the masses in respect to the ongoing sacrilegious act which cannot be over-emphasized. Despite that shocking citation, the actors of such loathsome act has chosen to remain deaf ear. But I must tell you unequivocally; if I happen to be among those who do evil, I’ll as well be deaf ear to such citation since the negative consequence or nemesis of my evil deed will not affect me directly. Rather, stands to catch up with my offspring as it’s cited in the quotation. Yes, any evil man does not have a living conscience, therefore would never be mindful of the pains to be incurred by those coming after him/her as a result of his/her evil deed.
Many have been analyzing and as well lamenting on this lingering inhuman phenomenon known as evil. The more meditative ones in the midst of the analyst have succeeded in coming up with the question which reads, “Why do people commit evil?” I put it up to you that, in some persons, evil are inborn. And such set of people do not have any reason for any evil they must had committed, rather they do it for pleasure sake. In other words, they will seize to be happy if they don’t indulge in an evil act for a whole day. Apart from this set of people, many others commit evil due to rivalry, jealousy/envy, and craze for wealth/power or fame just to mention a few.
But for whatsoever reason one commits evil, always bear it in mind that there’s no evil person that lives happily. No evil-doer is at peace with him/herself. In other words, the law of karma is still valid. There is no two ways about it. Therefore, the evil that men do lives with them, but not after them as we presume. Apparently, evil and it doers are coexisting interdependently. Think about it!

The doomed churches
THE DOOMED CHURCHES AND THEIR FALSE PROPHESIES
Brethren, it amuses my humble cerebrum each time I realize that many still believe that the sky is the limit of any upward target. Similarly, it beats my psyche whenever I see any fellow who believes that he/she owns or can control the universe.
Maybe you don’t comprehend my insinuation; so let’s have it this way. The last time I checked, I thoroughly understood that millions of Nigerians were yet to acknowledge the true meaning of supremacy. In the same vein, I also realized that many were yet to know that their origin or lineage can only be traced to a certain superior being.
Two weeks ago, a childhood fellow called from Lagos State over the telephone to register his grievances towards some lackadaisical attitudes being displayed by most Nigerian leaders or political office holders. In his preamble, he frankly told me that Nigeria was still sleeping. It was an amusing but challenging preface. Honestly, going by the manner in which he came up with the introduction, it was as if he was seeing Fred Nwaozor as the Nigeria in question. So I urged him to expatiate in an elementary language with the excuse that I had a very stressful day therefore my brain was not meant to function adequately. He proceeded by telling me that if a country like Nigeria was yet to understand democracy or yet to define the term in a language that everyone would understand, apparently she was still day-dreaming. At this juncture, I needed not a prophet, be it false or true to interpret to me that my dear friend was penalizing the political leaders in his God given heart. Who was I to tell the poor man that he was not making sense since every cry must have a cause or an origin.
Lest I forget, we’re discussing or about to discuss the doomed churches and their false prophesies. Before I accepted this topic, I sought for my usual immunity from He who sent me because I knew I was bound to face some challenges or consequences the moment I agreed to write on it. Since my immunity is assured, so He in me is far greater than he that is in the world. Thus, the Lord is good!
Quite alright, many have taken into institutional crime but the worst of it is the idea of establishing religious institutions that do not worth it. It doesn’t just beats my psyche but makes me go crazy each time I realize that many mistake the benevolent attitude of the supremacy to a foolish gesture. On the other hand, I often feel dizzy whenever I come across people living with shallow or minute brains. My observation does not call for any alarm because it’s a fact.
Yes, many have sinned and come short of the glory of God. But it’s extremely disgusting to see many as not just sinners but sin producers/manufacturers. God please kindly forgive your poor child if he has judged his fellow mankind, though I strongly believe that I’m communicating as one of your apostles. In other words, I was well ordained by you to do this job.
But if I must analyze, I shouldn’t be disproved in any way because truly men have derailed greatly. If not, why should someone or a mere mortal wake up one morning and sees him/herself as the supremacy; why should my fellow soul assume to be the creator of other souls? This lingering mentality amongst most men has constituted the emergence of several religious outlets in the name of churches, ministries, chapels as the case may be found all over the nooks and crannies in our society. Surely, all crimes are blasphemous but this very one is beyond blasphemy therefore ought not to be seen as a mere crime but a sacrilege.
The issue is not just causing a church/ministry to exist but the high rate of false prophesies attached to it remain the bone of contention. For those of you who are not myopic when it calls for observing the society plight, you will agree with me that the origin/genesis of most divided homes today could be attributed to false prophesy. For instance, a so-called prophet or reverend would walk up to one of the brethren in his congregation and tell him/her that one of his/her brothers or sisters is the sole cause of his/her predicament. So many other similar cases have been taking place in most of these prison yards known as “churches or ministries” found in our blessed society. Beloved, is not just false prophesy, but the rate of rape, murder and other numerous atrocities or social vices allegedly indulge by these “men of God” on a daily basis have remained the order of the day.
Should we continue to be silent, or should we remain dumbfounded or astonished till the whole of our houses/homes would be turned to places of doom. Isn’t it enough; or isn’t a word enough for the wise? Think about it!

Sustenance of a neighbour
SUSTENANCE OF A NEIGHBOUR IN OUR EVERYDAY LIFE
Brethren, from my humble perspective, the three priorities of life remain the following: first and foremost, acknowledging your creator. Secondly, discovering and awakening your potential. And thirdly, adoring your conscience. Remember, every opinion is bound to be challenged or criticized by any concerned individual/group, likewise mine. But, that’s by the way.
In a clearer tone, I wish to state here in a different language the three priorities of life. First; you must understand that you were created by a supreme being. Second; you ought to find out those things you can fit in or those talents you possess and see how you can develop them for the betterment of yourself and the people around you. Third; you must not despise/betray or try to hurt that part of your mind that differentiates the right from the wrong as you stride towards actualizing your dream or developing your talent on a daily basis.
On Saturday, 4th of May to be precise, having concluded the unusual morning chores in my place of residence, I felt like one who fought a lion. But thank God, surprisingly someone came from behind in my neighbourhood to rescue me. I wouldn’t disclose the gender of that fellow but the sole fact or bone of contention remains that I was rescued by a good Samaritan. It isn’t a joke; though it could be amusing. Yes, it’s not a paradox. Let’s ignore the digression and face the business of the day.
Beloved, we’re discussing the sustenance of a neighbour in our everyday activity. To begin with, who’s a neighbour? In a concise term, a neighbour is he who lives, sits or stands near you. Don’t forget, “he” as mentioned above represents both genders.
Having registered the above definition, now the question becomes; who is your neighbour? Let’s save ourselves from the suspense. Your neighbour is that person that lives in your neighbourhood. Your neighbour is also that fellow that sits close to you or works with you at your place of work. More so, your neighbour is that person that walks or runs with you in any professional or casual setting.
Since we have noted these facts, I want us to acknowledge that we can’t do or stride successfully without our respective neighbours. This is why the holy writ advises us to love our neighbours as ourselves. That is, we should cherish our neighbours just as we do cherish/adore ourselves. Thus, your neighbours are expected to be seen or regarded as more important than your relatives provided your relatives are not residing with or living close to you.
On the contrary, in spite of the enormous importance attached to having a neighbour, most individuals/groups have greatly abused the phenomenon. People no longer regard their neighbours. Most times they end up seeing them as disturbances or hindrance to their future pursuit.
In analyzing the anomalies observe in the issue of neighbourhood, the false prophets or the doomed churches cannot be left aside. The aforementioned religious institutions or officers have separated most household and/or neighbours in the name of “That person living next to you is behind your misfortune”.
At this juncture, I put it up to you that one without a neighbour or anyone who cannot boast of any neighbour(s) is just like a tree or vegetative plant without a root, either fibrous or tap. In other words, everyone requires a neighbour in his/her everyday activity/life.
In Igbo land, there are some worthwhile idiomatic expressions being cited on a daily basis such as, “Mmadu bu chi ibe ya” and, “Nwanne di na mba”. Meaning; your fellow human being stands as your god and, a relative could be found in abroad where none of your blood relations lives respectively. Truly, your friend or neighbour could be the only god you see/know at a given circumstance. On the other hand, in a certain place/locality where no member of your household lives, there is possible tendency of discovering one (a neighbour/friend) who could show you love more than any of them does.
Honestly, we must all stride to make our neighbour(s) happy irrespective of the circumstance. I bet you, towards maintaining or observing the three priorities of life as stated in the first paragraph, the services of a neighbour/friend must be required. Think about it!

Payment of gratuity & pension
PAYMENT OF GRATUITY AND PENSION IN NIGERIA
Brethren, “there are dangers in men’s smile” as it was cited by William Shakespeare. Even as the world over and beyond celebrates and would continue to celebrate the late literary giant, Prof. Chinua Achebe for his unquantifiable contribution towards the global academic growth and promotion, there are many who are yet to know that someone of his kind once came into existence; just as various entities or individuals in the Nigerian South-Eastern region are yet to acknowledge the fact that the late Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu had an exemplary vision towards the emancipation of the Igbo nation which was marginalized. The aforementioned idiosyncrasy or phenomenon is not barbaric; thus, it doesn’t sound crazy, rather, it’s natural. Meanwhile, let’s ride on!
Penultimate week, I coincidentally ran into a young man who happened to be one of my university friends and classmates at one of the relaxation points in Ehime Mbano L.G.A, Imo State. As we were embracing our impromptu get-together, the welcome speech of the man who has known me as an activist right from our school days was that, Nigeria was still in comatose state. In spite of the cruelty, without being asked to expatiate while I was still in my pensive mood, he proceeded by saying that the nation would soon collapse if drastic measure was not taken. Though the preface coupled with the body of his candid speech was so harsh, but it wasn’t thoroughly shocking to me because I’ve come to realize that at recent time virtually every Nigerian youth is aggrieved. Please don’t ask me why.
Besides, our topic of the day is payment of gratuity and pension in the Nigerian society. Gratuity, according to the context of this humble edition, is a large gift/amount of money given to someone when he/she leaves his/her employment or after his/her retirement. In the same vein, pension is a regular sum of money given to someone to serve as an entitlement as a result of his/her retirement, old age, loss of a marriage partner or disability as the case may be.
Going by the definition of the latter, you will find out that apart from a retiree anybody could be entitled or be a beneficiary to pension provided that he/she is less-privileged. Such routine is being adhered to in most civilized/advance countries in the world. In Ireland for instance, there’s a place created by the government which is known as “the old people’s home”. In such home, the old men and women ranging from seventy (70) are being kept and properly catered for. But in Nigeria, the government is only concerned with the retirees; still, the retirees constantly cry out for such entitlement. Considering this aspect of the Nigerian society, what stops a typical or an average Nigerian youth whom I’ve known for decades to be restive from boldly saying that “Nigeria is still in comatose state” as it was cited by my beloved friend and fan.
Not just the pension. What about the gratuity that someone is meant to go home with as soon as he retires or vacates his office for his home having served the country meritoriously for several years. As a worker goes home after retirement, his journey back home ought to be accompanied with his gratuity. He worked for it, thus it’s his entitlement. Therefore, he is not expected to beg for it. Q.E.D.
As an analyst, I know there is a way out of this consistently occurring ugly scenario. Since most of the officers in charge of payment of gratuity and pension have cultivated the disgusting habit of running away with our money thereby enriching their respective bank accounts, then we don’t need a prophet to tell us that the remedy to our sleepless nights lies in our precious hands. Let the concerned political office holders understand that the entire citizenry has become used to these reoccurring cock and bull stories being witnessed on a daily basis.
If I may ask, what is actually wrong with our psyche; are we under a kind of spell or something? If yes, then let’s go for thorough deliverance so that we would be totally free from this social and economic mayhem.
But frankly speaking brethren, if properly checked, we will discover that in the midst of several smiles lies a deceit. Truly, there are dangers in men’s smile. Think about it!

Misuse of Godfatherism
NIGERIAN POLITICIANS AND MISUSE OF GODFATHERISM
Brethren, when you say that someone is a mistake, don’t forget that you are actually saying that God made a mistake. Apparently, if you dispute what God created, then you must be ready to absorb the rot that awaits such grievous blasphemous act.
Let’s come down to this level. If you’re yet to acknowledge the fact that the Supreme Being does not make mistakes and shall never make attempt to, then it’s high time you did. Most times, even some of us who understand this fact very well end up being skeptical over nature’s ability by displaying pathetic attitudes that identify them as ignoramuses.
Barely three days ago, someone who happens to be my bosom friend who was sitting right beside me in a political gathering that took place in one of the localities in Rivers State whispered to my humble ear that most of the Nigerian politicians were paradoxes. It ushered in a shock though I stood my ground because prior to that low toned exclamation, I was really in my usual pensive mood. I stood my ground because my senses perceived the message as a polite shock. Yes it was polite because as an analyst, such bitter utterance from the populace was no longer news to my person. Similar utterances I have came across since I know myself as an activist have run into millions, if not billions. Notwithstanding, I still urged the poor fellow to expatiate his view. He further told me that if I was yet to realize that this set of people always contradict themselves whilst dishing out their speeches, then it appeared that I was still sleeping and needed to wake up as a matter of urgency. He said, “If at the long run these people can see their godfathers as a mistake in their political career, then they should be seen as biased men.” At this point, I smiled tentatively having understood where he was actually coming from.
We are discussing the misuse of godfatherism by most Nigerian politicians. To commence with, who’s a godfather? Based on the context of this edition, a godfather is a person or a male superior who directs his junior colleague(s) or beneficiary on how to succeed in life, or in his/her career. We also have a godmother but in this edition, “godfather” stands for both. This means, the aforementioned superior could be a male or a female. Let’s ride on!
Frankly speaking, godfatherism is as old as the world, if not older. Such phenomenon began with God, who stood as a mentor to Adam the first mortal man on earth, though he (Adam) derailed. Christ also followed suit by acting as a godfather throughout His stay or companionship with His twelve disciples, though Judas Iscariot derailed. In other words, godfatherism is a divine and worthwhile phenomenon. It is found in all areas of life or any career in existence. It’s a pathway or scenario instituted by God Himself.
In the religious sector for instance; taking Christianity as a case study, we will discover that any child begotten by any couple must be linked / affiliated to a certain godfather or godmother, as the case may be. The godparent who would be chosen by the biological parents must be someone who they believe would help in bringing up their child in a God-fearing way.
In the political setting also, we have godfathers and it’s quite encouraging because someone must direct you to your success room. Honestly, you must need a coach. It’s a fact. Yes, a fancy fact! A certain Igbo adage which I usually cite says, “Mmadu bu chi ibe ya.” Meaning; one stands as a god to his/her fellow human being. But it’s really disgusting to see most politicians regarding their godfathers who ought to have led them well to their respective success rooms as a mistake they initiated in their political career, thereby resulting to these uncontrolled cacophonies witnessed in all the nooks and crannies.
Surely, there must be misunderstanding in our relationship with others because we’re not the same, but it shouldn’t call for unnecessary mayhem. Yes, some of these bickering do not really worth it.
Brethren, we are bound to comprehend that godfatherism is truly a worthwhile phenomenon, therefore ought to be embraced with absolute wisdom. We shouldn’t bite the fingers that fed us because God never made a mistake making us to be privileged to possess those fingers. Don’t forget, there are many who were not privileged to have such part(s) of the body. Think about it!

Man & Religion
MAN AND RELIGION: LET’S TALK ABOUT IT!
In certain contexts, even seemingly innocuous words are taken to be offensive which could make the surroundings to be insalubrious. Notwithstanding, we the analysts shall continue to think in the right direction towards the societal innovation.
From my humble view, irrespective of our ages, everyone belongs to or is affiliated to a certain institution. For instance, a new born-baby is a member of an institution widely known as “Family”. Likewise every other babies or kids. Most times, a kid could be a member of various institutions respective of his/her family background. In other words, an institution/institute is as old as man; if not older. But one fact we must comprehend is that some institution supersede others due to their nature or validity.
Few days ago, one of my childhood friends called from Abuja to inform me that he would soon join that institution that seems to be everlasting. He further told me that he had already picked his membership form and was ready to return the completed form in two weeks time. I understood where he was coming from because it was no longer news that marriage has been seen and regarded as an everlasting institution; or in other words, an institution that is bound to last for eternity. Having known that my friend is a Christian, Catholic precisely; after all other necessary questions, I asked him of which religion/denomination the lady in question belongs to. And he sincerely told me that the issue of religious faith has been a barrier ever since he started planning towards the marriage. At this juncture, I became confused, and biased too. In order to clear the air, he said that the lady is a member of the Jehovah Witness, likewise every other members of her family. According to him, her parents had earlier vowed that none of their daughters would get married to a man of another denomination. Though after all necessary persuasion from members of the extended family, they succumbed to his marriage proposal but insisted that their daughter who happens to be his fiancée must be wedded in their church. What an aberration!
Brethren, we are discussing man and religion. In a concise manner, religion is a belief in a god or gods and the activities connected with this belief.
There are so many branches/kinds of religions in existence, of which Christianity is one of them. According to my Christian Religious Studies (C.R.S) teacher during our days in Secondary School, every Christian believes in Christ or that Jesus Christ actually came to the world and died for our sins. Let’s ride on!
If truly that all the Christians believe in Christ irrespective of our denomination, then what is actually the dichotomy. Or in other words, what is the origin of all these bickering; is it the style of worship or the nature of the doctrines? This is a case study we all must endeavour to consider for the interest of humanity.
Come to think of it, even if the Muslims don’t believe in Christ, who says their faith does not lie in the same God that of the Christians lies? Despite my religious affiliation, I have personally taken time to digest the holy Quran. And I understood that the content is similar to that of the holy Bible. But the most tangible difference is that they misplaced Christ with Mohammed and that has to do with their understanding or acknowledgement. But the only fact remains that, they also believe that God exists just as the Christians do.
Even the Pagans believe that God exists. Have you ever taken time to be around them during their moment of incantation? In Igbo land, you would hear them say, “Obasi bi na elu”. This means, the God that lives in heaven.
More so, after all the tantrums and pandemonium, the philosophers finally agreed that truly God exists. Then ask yourself, who are the philosophers? A very complicated question indeed, though it has an answer.
At this point, I put it up to you that every religious institution believes that God exists. The fact is that some of them willingly or unwillingly chose to be rebels. Our predicament remains misinterpretation. We interpret God’s existence or supremacy in a way that it would suit our respective religious faiths or institutions which is extremely abnormal. We must go back to the drawing board and sincerely ask ourselves some certain sensitive questions such as, who’s God and how do mankind belongs to Him? Else, this crazed behavior would cost us an unbearable mayhem.
Honestly brethren, we are really abusing this worthwhile institution known as “Religion” which remains the nucleus of mankind’s existence instituted by God Himself. We must learn to do this thing right. Above all, we ought to understand that we’re one regardless of our religious affiliations. Think about it!

Love @ first sight
LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
Brethren, mere speculation may lead to more expectation. And, real jubilation could warrant rare tribulation. This very caption or clause calls for deep thought amongst wise thinkers. But in case you need my assistance while romancing over it, don’t hesitate to call me so we can collectively do the analysis.
As long as this column lasts, we shall be digesting any form of relationship between two or more things or persons in any area of life such as education, sciences/arts, religion, humanity, business/economy, polity and so on, as it affects or may affect the social lives of the people/things involved or concerned. So, welcome to Rostrum!
Two nights ago, I ran vigorously more than I’ve ever done since my childhood. I couldn’t imagine myself indulging in such tedious activity just as anyone who knows me very well cannot possibly imagine seeing me in such mood. But I knew why I ran, and that was my utmost joy. Thus, I saw the euphoria coming in subsequent to that. I know you may be asking yourself or as well thinking aloud what kind of run I solely indulged in. But never mind since the fact remains that I achieved success. Therefore, the Lord is good and shall continue to be good. In other words, if you embarked on a certain worthwhile activity and came out successful, you must not relent to give the Supreme Being an eulogy irrespective of the nature of challenges you may have faced in the process.
We’re on love at first sight. A short and challenging phrase which we must look into. Love is a symbol which signifies your appreciation for someone/something’s existence. Thus, love at first sight is the act of appreciating something/someone’s existence at your first meeting/encounter with the person or thing.
Love has been a very strong factor existing between two or more things or persons. And it remains the most outstanding symbol that unites and strengthens any existing relationship. From time immemorial, taking human beings as a case study, the women folk have remained a force of attraction to the men folk. And, such attraction can never be formidable or real if love is not involved. Let’s ride on!
Several actions and reactions in respect to love have been emerging which have resulted to many pathetic phrases/clauses such as “The first time I set my eyes on you, I fell in love with you”, or “My spirit told me I have found my missing rib, at my first meeting with you”, just to mention a few. Love which is one of the branches of emotion has ruined or misled millions of people who had mistaken lust for it (love). There is a very strong demarcation or dichotomy between love and lust which we are bound to understand. In Physics, it’s called “parallax”. Parallax is defined as two parallel lines that have no meeting point. In one of our subsequent editions on this column, we shall be digesting the two factors, love and lust extensively. But here, our sole interest lies on love at first sight.
Beloved, it sounds extremely crazy for one to say that he/she fell in love with a thing or person at his/her first meeting with the thing/person. There are certain ingredients/qualities that lead to appreciating something/someone. And, you can never discover such qualities in a person or thing at your first encounter with it/him as the case may be. Take for instance; if you’re a man, for you to appreciate a woman who just walked into your life, you must discover the general/entire beauty of the woman which can never be done even in few months.
The general beauty of any woman does not end on what or those things you can see by merely looking at her. It’s the interior and exterior qualities of a person that constitute his/her general beauty. The exterior ones are those you can see while looking at him/her which could be discovered within a day, while the interior ones are those that seem to be hidden and can only be discovered having spent some reasonable time with the person in question which could take years. The interior qualities/beauty of a man/woman are his/her mentality, manners, morality, level of simplicity and so on. And these are the qualities that can enable you to fully appreciate his/her existence.
Likewise a thing. Take for instance; you can never love a car at your first sight. For one to love a certain car, he/she must have discovered the entire qualities of the car.
In a nut shell, apparently there’s no love at first sight. And virtually every mankind has derailed due to this anomaly. So it’s high time we woke up. We must stop this lingering naughty jubilation that could lead to disastrous tribulation. Think about it!

Hygiene
HYGIENE : THE PATHWAY TO A HEALTHY LIVING
Brethren, an English grammarian would be so enthusiastic in informing people that English is the best language in existence. On the other hand, an Igbo grammarian would stop at nothing or would be so conscientious while trying to convince the public that Igbo is not just the best but remains the only language on earth. Whichever of the aforementioned crusades is invoked, the fact remains that both crusaders are trying to defend their ethnic heritage or individual ideology as the case may be.
Let’s have it this way; a Literature guru would leave no stone unturned while educating his fans on the outstanding impact of Arts in human existence. While a Physics don would continue to expatiate his view that Sciences is the only reason why man still lives. Any of the above fanaticism or dogmatism showcases how mankind can go an extra mile while defending his/her individual faith or conviction which can lead to extremism. But whichever case is in question, I wish to use this medium to unequivocally inform you that some crusades are intensely worthwhile therefore ought to be generally accepted.
We are discussing or about to discuss hygiene which is tagged as the pathway to any healthy living. Hygiene is the act of keeping yourself and your surroundings clean, in order to avoid illness or any possible spread of disease(s). There are different kinds of hygiene such as personal hygiene, food hygiene and environmental hygiene. Personal hygiene is that type of cleanliness that has to do with your body. On the other hand, food hygiene is about the hygiene relating to those things we consume on a daily basis. While environmental hygiene deals with our immediate environment or surroundings.
In one of my previous editions on this column, we succeeded in discussing extensively the high level of ignorance in disease transmission. In that edition, I categorically stated that if properly checked, dirt remains the rudiments of disease contraction or transmission. Most of us are yet to acknowledge that all diseases/infections has fundamental cause, rather they are only conscious of the fact that a certain disease can be transmitted from one person/animal to another without knowing that such disease has a genesis.
Millions of health/medical experts have lamented in the past on the likely danger of unhygienic attitude of most people. Many are still lamenting while many are yet to lament. But as a social analyst, mine is expected to be exceptional or more friendly, therefore I’m not lamenting or about to lament; rather I’m here to plead with my fellow gentle men and women.
We must endeavour to keep ourselves clean. And this is personal hygiene. This aspect of hygiene is the basic part of general hygiene in any given society. We should at least ensure that, we take our bath and as well brush our teeth/mouth twice in a day. Apart from taking our bath, washing of our hands after indulging in any work/activity or exercise is of utmost importance. We should also ensure that our armpits, private parts and other hair-growing areas on our bodies are being shaved always.
The food, water and other items we’re about/meant to eat or drink ought to be kept clean. Properly wash whatever you’re meant to eat. Boil your water adequately if it’s not from a reliable source. Above all, warm your cooked food every morning before taking it so that all germs or bacteria would be duly eliminated. Also, before cooking or boiling your meal, don’t hesitate to properly wash all the items involved with reasonable amout of salt and water.
Your environment or the environs of where you live are not left out. Endeavour to keep your surroundings clean. Keep your toilet and toiletries clean at all times. Ensure that the drainage system within you is always kept clean. Wash your wears and other clothing materials whenever they are dirty or stained. Don’t ever relent in convincing the members of your family and your closest neighbours on the efficacy of all forms of hygiene because their ignorance towards this would also affect you directly or indirectly. So be warned! Apart from our immediate environment, we should also ensure that wherever we find ourselves is being kept clean and tidy. Don’t be lousy over anything that has to do with both human and animal hygiene irrespective of who or the people it affects because someone’s spoilt or bad child could harm/damage your golden child. Who knows?
Beloved, we must wake up from our various slumbers. Enough of all these lackadaisical attitudes that tremendously affect our daily health conditions. Never you take your hygiene for granted because it’s truly a pathway to any healthy living. This shouldn’t be seen as a personal crusade therefore ought to be generally accepted. Be wise so you won’t fall victim!

Ignorance in Disease Transmission
HIGH LEVEL OF IGNORANCE IN DISEASE TRANSMISSION
On a close look, the vast amount of ill-health scattered all over is due to our social negligence. But, no matter how ill-fated the air-craft might be, there is still room for a soul to be saved.
In a nut shell, ignorance is the lack of knowledge about something. On the other hand, disease transmission is the transfer of certain illness(es) from one place or person to different places or persons. In other words, any person/thing can transmit disease(s) provided that he/it is not medically safe.
In most tropical countries, several cases of disease transmission could be attributable to the idiocy of various medical/health ideologies possessed by millions of ignoramuses. Most members of the aforementioned countries, mainly found in Africa, parade themselves as if whenever death comes it should be regarded as the due time. They find it very difficult to believe, even when you persuade them, that they have a role to play to ensure that they embrace a durable, tangible and sound life-span. For instance, you can see a member of such group consuming his/her meal after leaving the toilet without properly washing his/her hands with soap or detergent. Such person would only wash his hand, not even both hands, with the water meant for the meal. The most pathetic part of it is that, he/she would still use same water in the bowl to rinse his/her hand after the meal. Even when a knowledgeable one is privileged to be by his side and happens to remind him that he is yet to wash his hands with soap/detergent, the ignoramus would respond to such advice with an ignominious utterance. He may end up saying that, he had already washed his hand, adding that, after all he didn’t fall into the toilet or was not mixed with the faeces.
In the same vein, someone may be in the practice of drinking any water he/she comes across or is privileged to have without considering the purity of the water. Most members of this group are occupied with the ideology that every source of water is naturally pure. They may even tell you that those insane beings on the street drink flood and eat other rubbish but still live longer than the people free from insanity. Similar attitude is obtainable from one who smokes or drinks alcohol. What ignorance coupled with insanity!
Due to the kinds of ignorance stipulated above, and others too numerous to mention, one who has been tested in a medical laboratory may be told that he/she has staphylococcus areus and he (the patient) would end up telling the lab technician that such result cannot be possible since he/she is still a chaste/virgin. Such set of people has been beclouded with the popular name ‘Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)”. This means that, they are yet to know that every disease/infection has a fundamental source and must be contracted from such source before it could be transmitted or spreaded through the air, water, blood transfusion, sex, et cetera, as the case may be.
I put it up to you that, the primary sources of most diseases are dirty toilet, alcohol, cigarette/cigar, Indian helm, cocaine, dust and impure water. This simply means that most common diseases/infections can be gotten from dust, water, drinking, smoking or toilet. For instance, the major source of the aforementioned staphylococcus is impure water, likewise most other STDs. Other diseases like diarrhea, dysentery and typhoid can also be contracted from unsafe water. On the other hand, the major source of candidiasis (an STD) is the sharing of a dirty toilet. Therefore, for a disease; nasal influenza (catarrh) which is a well-known airborne disease for instance, to be transmitted from one person to another through the air, it must be contracted/gotten from a certain source such as dust or other unwanted particles.
The born of contention is that, the major source of most diseases/infections is dirt, and we must be conscious of that fact. Thus, not only after using the toilet that one is bound to wash his/her hands with soap/detergent. After undergoing a certain activity or journey, courtesy demands that you wash your hands with soap or detergent. If possible, you take your bath immediately. We must continue to keep ourselves, belongings, immediate environment, and everything about us clean.
Above all, most cancerous diseases are gotten from smoking, intake of hard drugs or drinking. The chemical content of such intake is highly detrimental to both human and animal health.
The various existing Non-Governmental Organizations and the concerned government agencies should from time to time organize seminars and workshops with the aim of sensitizing the minds of the public on the danger that awaits an individual and a society at large that is infected/affected by a certain disease. They should also elaborate their mindsets on the possible sources of most common diseases. The media houses or personnel are not left out in this crusade.
But on our own individual effort, we ought to understand some facts or ask ourselves some certain questions as regards disease transmission. For instance, even if the percentage of transmitting STDs through sex is 99.9% while the other means or avenues such as blood transfusion and sharing of sharp objects share 0.1%, why should one be so myopic to acknowledge the fact that 0.10% could be extremely enormous if carefulness is not adhered to? Think about it!

Fanaticism amongst Sports lovers
FANATICISM AMONG SPORTS LOVERS
Beloved, as a human being or as a mortal, you’re bound or privileged to imagine anything that is likely to take place in your life-time including any state of misery. But have you ever imagine being mad or walking on a lonely street like a homeless he/she goat?
In fact let’s take it this way. The last time I checked, I understood that every created soul has the potential or ability to figure out what his/her future may look like or what could be obtained in the near future. Thus, we also possess the ability to imagine how we ought to look like if we eventually get mad. But God forbid!
Let me ask a question; one who forbids a certain predicament but never takes precaution(s) in respect to encountering the forbidden circumstance, isn’t he/she mad already? Often times in my state of solitude, I’m usually filled with fathomless amusement due to numerous scenes I have been observing in any society I found myself.
In case if we have forgotten, we are discussing fanaticism amongst sports lovers. Fanaticism is a state at which someone feels very strongly about something and often behaves in an extreme way because of it. Taking Nigeria as a case study, the manner in which most sports, football precisely, lovers behave in their everyday lives is disheartening, therefore requires a very cogent and drastic measure to ensure that the worst wouldn’t taken place.
Sometime ago in a certain English league match between Liverpool and Arsenal football clubs which I was viewing in one of the football viewing centres in my vicinity, a fellow who happened to be an Arsenal fan almost accidentally hit my eye because one of his closest neighbours told him that Arsenal must lose the match. It didn’t even stop at that. Subsequently in various occasions I have been privileged to witness one of two similar circumstances. I wonder how they predict matches; is it by tongue or by what they see or observe in the teams in question. Let me quickly flash back to 2008 during my final year in the university, FUTO to be precise. Immediately after the match between Manchester United and Chelsea football clubs in an European Champions League finals in which Manchester United defeated Chelsea in a penalty shoot-out, the fans of both English leagues who happened to be students of the University started breaking empty bottles and were throwing the broken bottles to each other. It was a state of morass. I managed to find my way to my humble lodge so I wouldn’t fall victim. What is actually happening to us?
If I’m meant to analyze, then I will frankly tell you that sports is the only common language being spoken by all and sundry across the globe. And since football is the most populous among all sports, then I must inform you that football is the most language understands by mankind. Thus apparently, football remains the most vital epitome of unity in the whole world. But it’s quite appalling and pathetic that same symbol of unionism has been abused greatly by its lovers thereby making it a sign or mark of danger.
That you truly love something or someone shouldn’t call for extremism while trying to defend its/his interest. Let me use this opportunity to digress to the popularly cited philosophy which says, “Love is blind”. Frankly speaking, love is not blind and had never been blind. It can see clearly even in the dark. For instance, that you love someone does not mean that you’re not bound to observe the bad side of the person. Most times we end up overlooking the bad side due to love not that we don’t see it. We must understand this fact very well; there’s a big disparity between not seeing something and overlooking something. So if you acknowledge the bad side of a certain person you truly love and another person knows about this bad side, then you ought not to apply brutalism while trying to defend him/her if the other person eventually comes up with the truth or tries to analyze the truth about your loved one or beloved. Because if you react in that direction, it’s a silly approach.
The high level of fanaticism observes amongst football lovers are actually becoming deadly. Yes, it’s no longer news that several souls have been lost as a result of this. And if adequate and drastic care is not taken, more millions of souls are likely to follow suit. Apart from trying to defend a certain football club through oral deposition, the high rate of betting that it has been coupled with is also no doubt an alarming issue.
The funniest part of this syndrome is that most of these so-called football aficionados, especially those from Africa, are not even patriotic to their respective local (indigenous) leagues. They detest the aforementioned leagues with passion for no just reason. What a world!
Honestly we must return to the dressing room because we have derailed tremendously, else we are likely to encounter madness which may lead to fathomless death rate in the process. Think about it!

Torn Naira notes
THE NEED FOR CONSTANT REPLACEMENT OF
TORN NAIRA NOTES IN CIRCULATION
Brethren, to be candid and straightforward, I must say that it beats my psyche and it’s also an eyesore to see some of us behaving as newly recruited birds in a certain poultry yard. In the same vein, I also wish to state that it disgusts my sight to witness some scenes that has to do with most of the learned ones in our midst showcasing their dirty lilies like men of the underworlds.
Maybe I’ve been speaking in tongue; so let’s put it this way. There’s a phenomenon that has been existing in Nigeria for centuries now. And this has to do with the abuse of the naira notes amongst the users. Due to lack of formal education in the past, the elites in the midst used to believe that such anomaly was as a result of illiteracy. But lately, we the analysts have come to realize that such idiosyncrasy is never a product of illiteracy, rather ignorance coupled with impunity. Suffice to say that, even the elites constitute the aforementioned aberration.
On this note, I urge us to embark on a tour to the western nations with the sole aim of observing how their currencies are being handled by the users.
To start with; in the western world, United Kingdom to be precise, you would hardly see where the pound sterling is being sprayed in any occasion by the participants of such ceremony, coupled with other numerous policies as regards the use of such currency being strictly adhered to or observed by the users. Above all, every individual in such civilized society irrespective of his/her age is accustomed to a wallet for safe-keeping of the currency. In a nut shell, one could say that the members of the western societies adore their respective currencies.
On the contrary, it’s so devastating that the kind of civilization the Nigerians are used to is abuse of dressing code/mode. Recently, some of us have started dressing like expensive masquerades, or more disgustingly like high-rated baboons in our various forests. And when being asked or confronted, the participant of such dirty act would proudly tell you that we are passing through the civilized century/age. What a world!
Please pardon the digression. Meanwhile, our topic for today is the need for the torn naira notes in circulation to be continually replaced by the concerned authority.
It’s a slap on our faces and abuse of our image/dignity as a country and as the most populous black nation to see tore naira notes littered all over the nook and cranny of the Nigerian society still being used by the Nigerian occupants. It’s even more appalling to see the various banks in the country re-loading the said tore notes in their respective Automated-Teller Machines (ATM) or directly issuing such notes to their clients. The most devastating scenario is the situation whereby a banker at the counter refuses to receive a tore/bad naira note from his/her client. Then at this juncture, I ask; if the banks refuse to collect the bad naira notes, who else would receive it? Well, let’s ride on while we await the answer to that question.
Without taking more of our time; on the above note, I advise the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to reawaken their policies amongst the existing commercial and micro-finance banks in Nigeria. They should mandate them to receive the naira notes regardless of its state/condition. On the other hand, they should also direct them not to reload any bad naira note in their various ATMs.
Secondly, the printing and minting sector ought to ensure that those bad notes collected by the banks are being remitted to them for replacement. And such practice must be made to be observed strictly by the banks. In this vein, the bad notes received by the sector should be burnt to ashes, which is known to be the culture in the sector.
Thirdly, the last but not the least, I also urge the law makers to enact a strict law forbidding any act among the citizens that intends to abuse the naira notes. A capital punishment should be issued to any defaulter of such law.
Beloved, we ought to introduce a new and enticing face in regard to the use and circulation of our noble naira notes because it’s our identity and must be guarded. Think about it!

Consistent spiritual uplift
URGENT CALL FOR CONSISTENT SPIRITUAL UPLIFTMENT
IN OUR VARIOUS CHURCHES
Yes, today is brighter. Who knows how tomorrow would be or would look like; maybe it could be the brightest. But that shouldn’t call for celebration because tomorrow remains pregnant, therefore, it can beget anything.
The above stated fact calls for constant prayers among mankind to ensure that our tomorrow becomes the brightest day in existence. For those of us who are far from prayers, how do you ascertain that the subsequent days you’re meant to encounter are bound to showcase extreme brightness, or brightness to say the least?
To be frank, personally I don’t take prayers for granted nor do I play around with my religious faith. Mind you praying is not when one stands on the street and begins to lament over his ordeals or loudly ask for his wants from his creator. Also, praying is not when one shouts amidst intense tears to the hearing of his neighbours/friends. Prayer lies in the heart of the bearer. In a nutshell, prayer is a spiritual phenomenon; it’s a tool that goes or operates with one’s spirit.
Having noted prayer, let’s digress to faith. I’ve earlier written on ‘Fate and Faith” which I tagged as two fancy facts in one of my previous editions. And I categorically made it clear that the aforementioned tools exist. I further stated that, fate without faith was meaningless. Surely, that fact still holds. You can read up any of the previous editions on http://frednwaozor.blogspot.com. Let’s ride on!
You must endeavour to believe in He that created you and as well what He can do at any given moment. Faithfulness shares the greatest percentage while discussing one’s blessings/successes. Pathetically, most of us is yet to embrace the efficacy of faith in their day-to-day stride towards survival or attainment of an impeccable height. More pathetically or disgustingly, most times they even mix it up or misplace it with other religious tools which could be more disastrous. In other words, they don’t even know what it (faith) represents or when it’s meant to be embraced or applied. On this note, I put it up to you that faith is also a spiritual phenomenon.
The last on my list but not the least is thanksgiving. Do you thank your creator at all; or have you been robbing Him? To be sincere, you can’t run away from thanksgiving, else you stand to mess it up thereby encroaching your state of doom. Beware, thanksgiving is not when you carry all you have in your household to your place of worship; or when you give all your belongings to God. Rather, thanksgiving simply means thanking your creator through praises/eulogies for what He has done for you. If not for anything, the life He has granted to you is enough reason to say “Thank you!” Believe me, it’s mandatory to thank your creator; it’s not optional or elective. And don’t forget, thanksgiving includes tithe. Mind you, tithe is not meant for only income earners. From my individual interpretation, tithe simply means sharing part of what you have with your creator; therefore you can share anything provided they’re your belongings/accomplishments. This shows that even a child/kid is entitled to pay tithe. The gesture signifies appreciation to your creator in a practical term. Summarily, one can pay his/her tithe in so many ways provided they’re coming from the heart. Thus, tithe-paying or thanksgiving generally begins with the heart of the giver. In other words, thanksgiving is no doubt a spiritual attribute.
The above facts are the basic doctrines that are meant to be practiced in our various churches. The leaders of the existing religious organizations/institutions are expected to continually uplift the spiritual attributes of their respective congregations. On the contrary, most of the aforementioned leaders have chosen to preach finances/economy thereby ignoring salvation.
For crying out loud, the paramount object of any religious group ought to be nothing but attainment of salvation. According to the context of this edition, in a concise term, salvation is the saving of someone from harm or from the consequences of sin. And to actualize this, one must embrace prayers, faith and above all thanksgiving to the fullness. Honestly there’s no two ways about it; therefore there’s no “short cut” towards attaining salvation. Q.E.D.
Brethren, we must constantly endeavour to acknowledge where precisely we came from or our origin, else an unpredictable downfall awaits us. Think about it!

Nigerian Professors
NIGERIAN PROFESSORS: PATHWAY TO THE PROMISE-LAND
Frankly speaking, even if I happen to be held at gunpoint by three able-bodied men, I would stick to realism regardless of the consequences it may result to. Yes, realism is a school of thought I will never regret associating myself with because realistic things which remain the sole product of realism are simply divine, or in other words, godly. As a bonafide member of this noble institution, realism or as a realist, I detest mirage with enormous passion because I strongly believe that reality is the direct opposite of the aforementioned phenomenon (mirage).
Let me use this avenue to quickly bring us closer to a fact which most of us is yet to embrace. Life is not arithmetic or any branch of mathematics. When I say “or any branch of mathematics”, I meant that apart from arithmetic, it’s neither algebra nor geometry. For some of us whom are closer to mathematics, you would understand that the subject/discipline comprises of three major branches. Yes, life is not mathematics; in life experience, sometimes when you add one to one, it won’t give you two which is the anticipatory result, rather it may give you a figure which could be above one hundred. This is a reality or a factual fact. People who are far from this logic end-up embracing “mirage” in their everyday lives. So beloved, it’s high time we fully understood the reality of life.
Today’s edition reads “Nigerian professors” which I tagged as the pathway to the promise-land. To commence with; who’s a professor?
From my singular opinion and in a concise definition, a professor is the most learned person in any society. Whatever any definition as regards a professor might read, the fact behinds it remains that he’s the most educated individual in any organization he belongs to. And a Nigerian professor is a professor who hails from or is a citizen of Nigeria.
Few weeks ago, a good friend of mine who knows me as an analyst/activist called from Cross-River State, Calabar to be precise to register one of his grievances in regard to Nigerian educational system. A man who I’ve known for years as a fellow advocate of education expressed his view bitterly. He said that one of his professor friends/mentors who retired two years ago in one of the Nigerian universities after serving the country meritoriously and tirelessly could not boast of a befitting private vehicle/car that can convey him from one locality to another. He wept bitterly on phone having dropped the message. What a world!
Honestly brethren, it beats my psyche each time I see most of the Nigerian professors exhibiting series of cacophonies like a mid-night cockroach as a result of how cruelly they had been treated by the government. As they continually develop this unannounced despair, it’s our duty to let any government suffering from ignorance to know that this set of people remains the threshold of any existing society. Thus, we can’t watch them continue to embrace this disastrous high fever which may likely lead to societal epitaph.
I must tell you this; if surely we will embrace that promise-land we all are eagerly waiting to encounter, then our professors must be placed first. I’ve earlier written on democracy and technocracy which is similar to this edition. Yes any democratic setting that recognizes technocracy must be filled with a good number of professors. And those ones who are found in various classrooms would also be highly pampered. It’s a reality not a mirage. Let’s ride on!
Believe it or leave it; our professors have not been given any vital role to play in respect to the ongoing developmental stride. Even those who had been granted the opportunity to serve were not allowed to fully earn their view. And most pathetically, those found in our classrooms are not being motivated.
How can the councilor of a certain political ward in Nigeria go home at the end of every month with a figure mounting to millions of naira while the professor of a university goes home at the same month end with barely two hundred thousand naira or thereabout, or even less than that; Isn’t it funny? Think about it!

INCESSANT RAPE OCCURENCE
RAPE ON THE RAMPAGE
It is no longer news that the mankind is passing through the twenty first (21st) century. In other words, every society/community existing in this lovely universe has embraced or is almost close to a civilized state. But the worrying question that accompanies this fact is, does civilization constitutes a high rate of social-vices?
In recent times, the increasing rate of rape has remained the order of the day and as well, a fathomless societal cankerworm in the African society and the world in general. And the implementation of a finite measure as regards its eradication seems to be a mirage.
Rape, in a short and concise tense, is an act in which a man indulges a female human into sex forcedly or against her wish. More so, a rapist is a man who rapes or has raped a female human.
Over the years, rape cases have been occurring uncontrollably across the country. More pathetically, lately the incidence has been lingering in such a dirty manner that it has warranted many concerned individuals/bodies to insinuate that the country was dedicated to the men of the underworlds by our fore-fathers. Suffice to say, the onlookers or members of this lovely rostrum fiercely attacked by these deadly bed bugs have been ushered to a state of imbroglio or conundrum.
Rape could take place indoors or outdoors based on the relationship between the two parties involved. The latter often takes place between the victim of circumstance and a group of men/boys, and usually at night. In this mode, the victim would be dragged or forcedly carried to a near-by bush or an uncompleted building by the group in order to embrace privacy. While the former happens between two false lovers, or a female and a false male lover which often takes place out of seduction. There are many ways a man could cajole a lady into premarital sex such as intake of alcoholic/drugged drink, initiation of oral sex, et cetera.
Sometimes rape occurs as a result of the environment the two parties found themselves. For instance, few weeks ago, the sun daily newspaper reported that a certain married woman was allegedly raped at night in the police cell at one of the cities in Delta State, Nigeria by her cellmate who happened to be a man at the age of 22. The news was so shocking and extremely disgusting. Subsequently several questions emerged from this disheartening information. And the summary of the questions was, on what ground or circumstance should a woman be kept in the cell with a fellow of an opposite sex to the extent of allowing them to pass a night together?
Various schools of thought have been into series of researches with the aim of ascertaining the actual cause(s) of rape. And, the realists which are members of the school of thought known as realism succeeded in coming out with a result. According to them, rape could be caused as a result of the following: mental disorder, immoral dressing, ignorance, intake of alcoholic drinks or hard drugs, deceit and curse which could be grouped into medical, social and spiritual syndromes. Let's ride on!
Someone who’s suffering from a certain mental disease and not kept under lock and key or any guard is no doubt a societal menace, thereby may end up indulging in several social vices such as rape. A lady who dresses half-naked is liable to the wrath of rape as a result of sexual seduction she ignorantly introduced. Most ladies who indulge in such act do so to attract the attention of the public, unknowingly to them that such practice may beget evil.
Men who cannot live without alcoholic drinks or hard drugs such as cocaine, marijuana, Indian helm to mention but a few would always think of and as well go for something evil such as rape, and often sees it as a pleasurable activity.
Also, several men in love affair are fond of deceiving their partners through presentation of expensive gifts and/or dishing out emotional eulogies, romantic speeches and falsehoods which would make them appear extremely affectionate and unique just to actualize their selfish interest. At the long run, he would end up sleeping with the lady/girl which could be against her wish or faith. Most men even go a long way introducing various romantic speeches such as oral sex either through the telecommunication gadgets or during an indoor conversation with the partner. And most times the ladies become so lousy or careless that they can’t differentiate the real from the fake even when the handwriting is boldly and clearly written on the wall.
Above all, someone who has been placed under a certain curse subsequent to an evil deed he committed in the past may see rape as an occupation. The members of this group usually indulge in incest.
The legislature has a very vital role to play towards eradicating this sacrilegious act. The law makers should enact a law that shall bear a capital punishment such as sentencing anyone found guilty of such loathsome and bastardly act to life imprisonment or any similar penalty that ought to be grievous. Another law should also be enacted stating that any lady caught outside her home or place of residence clad in any immoral wear would be arrested, prosecuted by a mobile court and asked to pay a huge amount of money as fine if found guilty. The last but not the least of the laws should be on how to address the illegal sales and consumption of alcoholic drinks and hard drugs which has proliferated intensely in our noble society.
Secondly, the government should ensure that any individual suffering from any form of mental imbalance is caught or taken to a special psychiatric home, duly treated and catered for. On this note, people should endeavour to report any person suffering from such illness to the appropriate quarters/agency.
Thirdly, the religious institutions/organizations are not left out. They should find out from their congregations whosoever that is passing through any spiritual attack or any kind of curse in order to be placed on special deliverance. Fourthly, the Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders should on charitable basis from time-to-time sponsor seminars and workshops with the object of sensitizing and sanitizing the minds of the youth on rape and other social vices.
Also, the police authority and other concerned bodies/individuals ought to ensure that on no account/circumstance should inmates that are of opposite sex be kept in the same cell.
Above all, we must always endeavour to tell ourselves nothing but the truth. The men folk should stay away from deceit because it’s highly blasphemous, and it maims and kills too. Learn to tell your beloved partner the gospel truth and always remember that pre-marital sex is evil.
On the other hand, the ladies should also be extremely careful and socially conscious of whatever they do. You must first and foremost be aware of what you want before you can go for it. Try to be sure of what exactly you want and to know virtually everything about whosoever that happens to be your partner in any area of life. Don’t allow yourself to be deceived.
The actors of this evil act should also realize that they are inviting the wrath of God which may lead them to a state of doom and could be deadly if they fail to embrace real repentance.
No one should be insouciant over the stride towards the eradication of this aberration that is putting the lives of millions of our innocent women/ladies in state of jeopardy. Therefore everyone is expected to be grief-stricken and act accordingly. Some hurts or grievances could be overlooked but not this one. We must work assiduously and as well, fight tremendously to ensure that this barbaric incidence becomes a thing of the past. And the time to act is now. Mind you, both human and non-human faces are required in solving this problem. Think about it!

POWER STABILITY IN NIGERIA
SCENIC SCENARIOS: THE WAY FORWARD (1)
Personally, I don’t take promise(s) for granted. That is why I succeeded in coming up with this edition. Remember, in my previous edition on unemployment before I did something on ‘birthday anniversary celebration’ which I tagged as a welcome phenomenon, I promise that, I would introduce separate editions that would discuss the power and education sectors. Henceforth, we shall not be discussing only the aforementioned sectors, but, inclusive of other sectors that also require urgent attention if the vision 20:20:20 in Nigeria must be a reality. So, this and subsequent editions shall lay emphases on the six major sectors that ought to be considered by the Nigerian government with the aim of solving the on-going socio-economic and political crises in the country. Each of them (the editions) shall emphasize on the steps, or remedial approach to be taken to ensure that, the lingering problem(s) in each of the six sectors is/are duly solved. The challenges that await the government while taking any of them (the steps) were foreseen and tagged by the columnist/writer ‘as unavoidable’ if the noble dream of the nation must be actualized.
Thus, this and the subsequent edition(s) shall be discussing power, health, education, refineries, security and labour respectively. So, in this edition, we shall be discussing ‘power’ exclusively and extensively just as I promised earlier; in my previous edition.
Brethren, in any context the above term, power, is being used, either physical, spiritual, economic, or electrical, it will continue to be one of the most fundamental aspects of human existence or struggle. But, in this edition, we’re only interested in its electrical context, and our nightmare is on its instability.
Electrical power or electricity has been the most fundamental/primary aspect of any economic development. Thus, its instability remains a worthwhile case study in any developmental struggle.
For over the years, lack of power stability has been a nasty cankerworm in the nation’s socio-economic growth. And, its eradication remains an enormous task or a nightmare to any political leader(s). On this note, the country has remained in absolute darkness, both physically and economically since her independence. For such barrier to be thrown to the waste bin, there is a certain step that must be taken/considered by the government; this single step, as stated below, should be adhered to by the present administration to ascertain steady and efficient power stability. Privatization: This is the act of selling government owned firm(s) to an individual or group of persons due to one of two reasons in the interest of the government, and of the public. Sometimes, it could be due to lack of fund requires for the maintenance (management) of the company in question. On the other hand, it could be for the aim of actualizing more adequate/effective functioning of the company thereby ensuring greater output.
The devastating condition of power supply in Nigeria that seems immutable requires this measure. The existing Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) should be totally sold to any interested individual or group, so that, the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity would be carried out by the private owner instead of having access to only ‘distribution’ which is the case in the present (on-going) situation/era. Also, an embargo should be lifted by the government allowing other potential investors, indigenous or foreign, to participate in the sector, thereby creating competition or ascertaining a competitive market set-up in the sector rather than the existing monopolistic system.
Just a few years ago, a similar step was taken in the telecommunication sector by the past administration led by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, and it worked. Honestly, once there’s a competition in any market system, the optimum target of each concerned investor remains how to be at the peak. Because, such position will automatically attract larger number of clients. Thus, such practice (competition) will definitely lead to efficiency.
So, the issue of constant power failure in Nigeria does not actually require the involvement or practice of technocracy, rather, a costless and intensely worthwhile measure such as the aforementioned tool (privatization). Even if you’re suffering from squint, with your basic knowledge in economics/commerce, you can easily see beyond my humble imagination.
Adversely, this measure is likely to yield a high cost of services. But, this shouldn’t be a nightmare to the government, because, once this objective is actualized, every individual irrespective of his/her status will be willing and able to afford the bills/charges. Yes, because adequate and steady power supply will ascertain high productivity which shall lead to greater and tremendous supply of goods and services thereby reducing the prices of commodities to their barest minimum. It’s not a magic; it’s social-science. Therefore, I’m speaking socio-scientifically.
Apart from the above reason, there are some other factors that would ascertain the willingness, readiness and ability of the consumers to comply with the charge that shall accompany the electricity supply. Those factors are painstakingly stated below.
Industrialization: As soon as steady power supply is actualized, there would be massive participation of private (individual) investors in establishment of industries/firms across the federation. And, this will create an avenue for immense job opportunities, and as well, high productivity of goods and services. In addition, the era of bad road network would be a thing of the past, because, the industrialists/investors will leave no stone unturned to ensure that, any road network affecting the location of their respective investments is duly addressed. On this note, there will be adequate transportation system. In a nut shell, industrialization will definitely yield high job opportunities, and as well, productivity, good road network, and effective transport services (system). And, other social amenities such as steady water supply will also be ascertained. Brethren, these features will drastically showcase a developed society (economy).
Commercial agriculture: Our land is already blessed/enriched with abundant minerals and nutrients, and there are numerous available raw-materials that can be used for unlimited cultivation. Our only problem remains mechanization. Even if there’re sufficient machines, their performances can never be effective without a reliable power supply.
Once adequate power supply and good road network are sustained, or injected into the system, potential commercial agriculturists will definitely emerge, and set up their respective farms. This practice will also attract massive job opportunities and high availability of goods and services which shall subsequently reduce the prices of commodities in our various markets.
So, indulgence in commercial farming is one of the gate ways require for drastic poverty alleviation in Nigeria, or any other developing nation. Self – reliance / Entrepreneurship: Apart from the establishment of large scale industries/companies by individual investors, there will also be immense location of small and medium scale firms by several citizens/individuals across the federation, because, right from time, Nigerians are already blessed with such propensity. And, this will surely yield a society/country where over seventy five percent (75%) of its occupants are self-reliant (entrepreneurs) or employers of labour. Think about it!
Don’t forget, next edition shall be on ‘health’. So prepare yourself.

The monster called Politics
THE MONSTER CALLED POLITICS
I’ve taken my precious time to read the world; and I’ve also taken time to undergo a research in respect to what most people of the world indulge in or enjoy doing. On the other hand based on my recent investigation and thorough study, I’ve come to realize that Africa in particular as a continent is quite different from others with regard to politics.
Surely, the content of today’s edition won’t be just a fancy fact, but a pro-active and challenging fancy fact. In spite of the challenging nature of the edition, I’m optimistic that it would be a very fruitful one.
Mind you, anything that comes up in this very edition has to do with my individual observation and research, therefore shouldn’t be tagged as a collective effort. Thus, you’re expected to come up with any reaction, be it individual or collective, in regard to this; that is, any subsequent opinion as regards this topic would be welcomed. For those of you on social media, you can channel your reactions through our official facebook page “Fancy Facts” or you can follow us on twitter @fdnnwaozor. You can also join us on my official blog http://frednwaozor.blogspot.com, and you would be glad you did.
Penultimate week, Wednesday to be precise, a bosom friend of mine who has been residing in Germany for three years now called me on phone at exactly 6:32 a.m to share a certain view with me. After exchange of pleasantries, before he began he first and foremost commended my Google blog by stating that it’s a very educative and informative institute. He started by telling me that the African Union (AU) as a bloc has been parading itself as a united body with only one language despite the fact that even a-day old child could see from afar that it’s a union where series of factions can be found. He further stated that with his thirty six (36) months experience in Europe, he had arrived at a conclusion that the AU can never withstand or be of any comparison with the European Union (EU) in terms of oneness/unity. According to him, in respect to unity the two aforementioned unions have a great dichotomy between them whenever the issue of bloc is being mentioned. At this juncture, I urged him to throw more light or lay more emphasis on his observation. He finally said that if it were in Europe, what transpired in Egypt recently wouldn’t had taken place with the view that the members of the EU would have done something to prove to the world that they are not just together but one family. The discussion lasted for several minutes after which I asked him to always feel free and register more views/opinions in subsequent times, and he gladly obliged and promised to do exactly as I said.
Well, that was a digression. Maybe I ought to be apologizing for digressing. Notwithstanding, our topic remains “The monster called politics.”
A monster is a large imaginary creature that is very frightening. Most of us may see it as a harsh critique for tagging politics as a monster. But far from it, I’ve a very cogent and realistic reason for doing that. I would advise you to go with only the fact that accompanies the critique and never mind the individualism in order to embrace peace among us.
Yes, it’s no longer news that politics is as old as the world, if not older. I also wish to use this avenue to inform you that without politics as an institution, there wouldn’t have been leadership. Thank God we all are aware that a society would never develop if leadership is not invoked. Summarily, politics remains the threshold of any existing society.
On the contrary, I’m of the view that politics which has done novel in our respective noble societies has as well put same societies in a state of jeopardy. One of my previous works which reads “Politics and Society: Interwoven heritage” had already said it all that, politics is not just a developmental instrument but also a menace to the society.
Take a good look at most of the ongoing societal bickering in all sectors or areas of life across the globe; you would find out that they are all due to politics. More so, all the wars, crises, massacres or wanton cruelty that have taken place in the past were as results of political instability.
Brethren, that politics as a profession or institution has been very helpful to our well-being shouldn’t make us myopic to embrace the fact that same useful instrument has been constituting these monstrous events. Truly without mincing words, politics is a monster; therefore remains a societal nightmare.
Above all, politics in Africa is more deadly than what’s happening in other parts of the universe because here is more of self-centredness, betrayal, sabotage, bullying, antagonism and above all bloodshed. Think about it!

Abuse of Power
ABUSE OF POWER IN AFRICA
Brethren, even if I lack the locus standi (legal right) to prosecute some persons/officials in our midst, I still strongly believe that I’ve some amount of immunity to justify any scenario taking place within my territory. In other words, most of us are naturally gifted with the initiative and prowess of putting up a judgement over any occurring drama or observation.
You will agree with me that in August 18, 2011; Justice Isa Ayo Salami was suspended as the President of the Court of Appeal by the National Judicial Council (NJC) when the body (NJC) found him guilty of gross misconduct following his refusal to apologize to former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu whom he accused of victimizing him for refusing to compromise a gubernatorial election dispute in Sokoto State. Subsequently, the Judicial body (NJC) immediately turned round to recall the principal judicial officer and recommended him to the presidency for reinstatement without stating any reason for the urgent recall. In its remark, the NJC said that it’s within its constitutional powers to recall and reinstate any justice of the court of appeal and does not require the President’s consent. Come to think of it; if truly the presidential immunity was not required or that they don’t owe the presidency any reason whatsoever for the recall, why should they find it difficult to understand that the public opinion/view is of high importance in any action that is meant to be taken by the body.
More so; few weeks ago, the President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan granted a presidential pardon to the convicted former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alsmieyeseigha and the ex-Managing Director of the Bank of the North, Mr. Shettima Bulama among others based on the decision taken by the Council of State. The bitter and controversial side of the story is that such decision was taken without minding or considering the anticipatory reactions of the congress/public. This means that the action was taken out of personal interest. The funniest part was that, the former was extricated while the United Kingdom (UK) was still seeking for his extradition to the country (UK) to be tried for a crime he allegedly committed.
On the other hand; some days ago, Monday March 25 to be precise, one of the banner headlines of The Punch newspaper reads, “Akpabio admits rigging primary election”. The inside of the page 8 of the paper stated that the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio confessed that he manipulated the result of the 2007 People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial primary election in the State by single-handedly replacing the winner with the name of his preferred candidate. Based on what the said paper wrote; the governor said that the manipulation was necessary in order to give the people of Ikono and Ini LGAs a sense of belonging. According to him, the people of the aforementioned LGAs, the area where the present serving senator, Sen. Aloysius Etok comes from, had not produced a senator since 1960 till 2007. Notwithstanding, even if the group in question was yet to produce a senator, does it call for rigging; and if truly that rigging was imposed as published, must it be confessed to the public hearing? What impunity begotten by extreme immunity!
Apart from the above anomalies, many similar phenomena have been lingering on the socio-political rostrum of most countries in the African continent. Such phenomenon has become a recurring decimal that one cannot just fathom the number of times it takes place on a weekly basis. In recent time, it seems as if Nigeria has suddenly become the engine room of such non-social act.
The public office holders or the political leaders in Nigeria should endeavour to live up to the expectations of their subjects. They ought to learn how to carry the entire public along in their respective scheme of works or obligations. For sanity or effective and efficient democratic system to be actualized in the Nigerian state and that of other African nations, the rule of law or due process must be properly adhered to; and the congress/public opinion must as well not be left out.
Nigeria as a country is of age; thus, she’s old enough to know her right from her left. She ought not to be deceived herself. Therefore, she and her children which Fred Nwaozor is inclusive must endeavour to tell themselves nothing but the truth. Fifty three (53) years as an independent nation and hundred (100) years as an entity is enough numerals that can ascertain a concrete/critical evolution. Think about it!

The Venture called Marriage
THE VENTURE CALLED MARRIAGE
Even the aroma of faeces might appear pleasant to a pregnant woman, likewise that of mud. On the contrary, we’re of the view that such scents are offensive to mankind. Nevertheless, the aforementioned phenomenon is natural and circumstantial too.
In a more similar note; a member of a certain elite confroternity may at a given circumstance act crazy or abnormal which ought to be considered as an aberration going by the modus operandi of the group. Notwithstanding, such state of abnormality exhibited by a member of the group cannot change the name or seize the existence of such group since we all are aware that change remains the only constant factor in existence. After all, a similar incidence just took place at the Rivers State House of Assembly on the July 9 to be precise. And many alike events have also transpired at the Apex parliamentary group in the country, both in the lower and upper chambers.
Take for instance; some days ago, I was suffering from migraine which resulted to a high level of apathy, and I decided to consult my doctor as usual. Having undergone the consequential diagnosis as recommended by the doctor, the result read malaria parasite two pluses. After all the prescription of the doctor, I was informed by him that I would be placed on drip but I declined the offer considering how long I presumed I was going to spend in the hospital in the name of being placed on a drip. Therefore I asked him to seek for an alternative. So funny indeed! Though the doctor understood my plight and on that note, he prescribed an alternative therapy. But on the following day, I told myself that I acted crazy for objecting the recommendation of a medical expert unlike me.
Nevertheless the bone of contention is that, at a certain circumstance we might be subjected to a state of madness just like in the case of a pregnant woman that is likely to adore every malodorous aroma around her.
Lest I forget, today’s edition reads, “The venture called marriage.” I ought to commence with the basic definition of a marriage.
Marriage, in a concise term, is the formal union of a man and a woman as husband and wife. In other words, it’s a combination or an amalgamation of two persons to form a couple.
Brethren, if we must be sincere to ourselves then everyone would agree with me on the view that marriage as an institution is as old as the world. Without mincing words, it’s quite pathetic and disgusting to see that this very institution which I tagged as sacred has been greatly abused by mankind because we failed to understand the fact that, it’s a venture.
If I may ask; what’s a venture? A venture is an activity or a project which is new, exciting but difficult; and which involves the risk of failure. Let’s ride on!
Yes, as soon as one indulges in a marriage, he/she just initiated a new project/activity and such project is expected to be exciting to both parties because each of them has been longing to embark on the project therefore it should be tagged as a long awaited project. But it’s sympathetic to realize that the parties involved always fail to acknowledge the fact that such project is a very difficult one to deal with and ought to be expected to be risky.
The most disheartening aspect of marriage is that, sometimes you see a certain couple competing with or posing as a rival to another couple all in the name of “We’re in a race.” For crying out loud, marriage is neither a competition nor a battle field. No trophy awaits any couple in regard to the successes recorded by it.
Above all, you don’t get married because others or all / most of your mates have gotten married. You must be prepared for the venture. And, the stepping stone to such preparation is getting hold of a suitable partner.
Because we’ve failed to understand that marriage is a difficult and risky project, that’s why we keep on encountering various predicaments in our respective homes. To be sincere and frank, marriage is all about successes and failures. And in most cases, the latter might supersede the former. I must tell you this; there’s no home that’s perfect, or there’s no home that encounters success all through. This is why we must learn to inculcate the needed ingredients in this venture; and they are perserverance, understanding, optimism/faith and above all, love.
I categorically stated it in the previous edition which I tagged as “The mystery called love” that we were yet to comprehend the true meaning of love. And that wasn’t a mistaken critique. I repeat, there’s no two definitions of love; take it anywhere. And until we understand this very fact, we shall continue to encounter series of problems in our marriages.
What I’m saying in essence is this; both parties involved must ensure they are in love with each other before embarking on such risky project. It’s only love that would fortify both of you whenever tribulation or temptation sets in.
Please brethren, we should endeavour to embrace the above fact so we won’t display madness even when it’s not called for. Don’t forget, there’s no easy avenue to embrace heavens; even the saints would tell you this.
Mind you, the validity of the venture in question remains the whole life-span of the participant. In other words, it’s regarded as an eternal institution, thus, must be handled with absolute carefulness. Think about it!
